Are People Using Too Much Toothpaste?

When it comes to teeth, dentists tend to know better than graphic designers and marketers.

Whether it is informing patients during a free implant consultation, preparing the correct aesthetic dental treatments or even how much toothpaste you should brush with, dentists are the experts, and according to one video that has since gone viral, people are using far too much toothpaste.

According to Dr K Sarvendran, many people apply a thick line of toothpaste to the entire length of the brush, as you would see in a toothpaste advert.

This is not necessary, and in fact, a pea-sized blob is the right amount for adults cleaning their teeth.

This advice can not only save money, but using too much toothpaste can sometimes do more harm than good.

Some types of toothpaste, such as those that claim to have whitening effects, work because they use abrasive ingredients to effectively scrub the top layer of enamel away, which can lead to weaker teeth.

A sensitive toothpaste is a better choice, as it keeps the protective properties of fluoride and other beneficial ingredients without wearing away too much at your teeth.

As well as this, too much toothpaste creates a lot of foam in your mouth, which means it can sometimes be difficult to see what parts of the mouth you have cleaned and which ones you have not.

Separating the mouth into four quarters you brush for 30 seconds at a time can help with this, as it ensures that every part of your mouth gets the clean it deserves.

Make sure you have a pea-sized blob of toothpaste on your brush every time you clean, and you will have the perfect ally to help fight tooth decay.
